The calculation and display of the fibre length distribution is opened via Graphics > Fibre length distribution
First, an initial fibre length distribution must be specified in the ‘Initial fibre length distribution’ tab. This can be done using a normal distribution, a list of values or a fixed length. The solid density of the matrix material must also be specified. The calculation can then be started using the ‘Calculate’ button. After the calculation, the program automatically switches to the ‘Calculated fibre length distribution’ tab. The arithmetically averaged average fibre length (blue curve) and the volumetrically weighted average fibre length (red curve) along the screw are shown on the left of the diagram. If you move the mouse in this diagram, the fibre length distribution for the corresponding screw position is displayed on the right-hand side of the diagram.
In principle, a long fibre length at the end of the screw and therefore also in the product is desirable. A possible downstream fibre shortening (e.g. when injecting an injection moulding machine) is not considered. In the process, it is possible to see which screw zone leads to which shortening of the fibre length. This information can be used for a fibre-friendly screw design.
