Saving a process

REX/PSI Next Generation provides you with flexible options for saving and exporting your processes. These options enable secure archiving and further processing of process data in various formats. The following section explains how you can save and export processes as separate files and which compatibility options are available for older versions of REX.

By default, the processes are saved compactly in a single file via the usual Project > Save process or Project > Save process as…. If individual process components are to be saved in separate files, this can be done via Project > // Export process//. This can be useful if specific parts of the process (e.g. materials, calculation settings or machine configurations) are to be archived and/or reused in other processes.

In addition to the modern file structure of REX/PSI Next Generation, the system offers the option of exporting processes in older formats so that they can continue to be used with earlier versions of REX/PSI. Two important export formats are available to you:

• PTF export: You can export your process as a PTF file. This format is obsolete, but allows you to transfer processes to older REX/PSI versions that can only work with this format.

• PRO export: Alternatively, you can save the process in the older PRO file format to open and further process it in an earlier version of REX/PSI. This ensures that processes created with the latest version remain backwards compatible with older versions if they are still in use.
  

These export options ensure that your work is not tied to the latest version of REX/PSI Next Generation, but remains compatible with older versions. This is particularly useful in environments where different versions are used in parallel.
