There are two parallel walkways in a walkway change zone. The bar from the previous zone runs out at the end of the bar change zone. A second bar is added at the beginning of the bar change zone and continues to run after the bar change zone.

A web exchange zone is used to force the solid bed to break up and thus increase the dispersive mixing of the plastic. The effect can be intensified by simultaneous compression in the channel height within the bar change zone.

Similar to a barrier zone, the web exchange zone consists of an inlet, a main return and an outlet. The pitch of the flights (upstream flight and downstream flight) can be specified separately, but are constant over the entire flight change zone. Furthermore, in addition to the screw clearance, a reduction in the web height can be specified separately for each web, so that a run-in and run-out of the webs can be specified. In each of the three zones (inlet, main section, outlet), the channel depth of the two channels and the reduction in the web height of both webs can be varied.
