Material degradation
Display of the degradation process
If the material degradation has been calculated, the degradation process (button DEGR) can be displayed.
Interpretation of the curves
Three curves can be seen:
- Material degradation (min)
- Material degradation (max)
- Material degradation (avg)
The degree of degradation describes the reduction in the zero viscosity of the plastic. A degradation level of 20% therefore means that the zero viscosity has fallen by 20%.
As can be read in the description of the degradation calculation, the maximum degradation process starts with the first melted material and thus decreases steadily over the remaining screw length.
Accordingly, the minimum degradation curve starts where the plastic melts for the last time. The average degree of degradation corresponds to the mass flow-weighted material degradation and thus corresponds to the expected value of the mixed melt.
Analysis of the degradation process
The average material degradation at the end of the screw is particularly relevant for the analysis. This indicates the reduction in zero viscosity to be expected, which is a measure of the molecular damage. The progression of the degree of degradation shows which screw zone has what effect on the degree of degradation.
