Interpretation of the curves
- Red curve: The red curve represents the wall shear stress of the melt vortex and thus starts at the location of the melt vortex formation and ends at the screw tip
- Blue curve: The blue curve represents the wall shear stress of the melt film. The melt film is above the solid bed. The curve begins at the start of the first heating zone and thus ends at the end of conventional melting, when the plastic is either completely melted or the disperse melting model is used, e.g. from a shearing or mixing part.
Analysing the wall shear stress
- The wall shear stress is strongly dependent on the viscosity of the plastic. The shear stress at the wall is a measure of the energy required for screw rotation and is therefore used for the isothermal and non-isothermal power model.
- The wall shear stress in the melt film is usually significantly greater than the wall shear stress in the melt film. This is due to the low thickness of the melt film and the associated higher shear rate.
