Cycle Time Display

The cycle time can be displayed via “Graphics > Cycle Time”.

Interpretation of Cycle Time

  • Metering Time: The metering time corresponds to the duration required by the plasticizing unit to provide the shot volume. It is either predefined or calculated depending on the cycle time calculation.
  • Injection Time: The injection time corresponds to the duration required for the injection process (excluding the holding pressure phase). This is a mandatory user input.
  • Other: This category covers all subsequent process steps such as holding pressure time, mold movement time, injection unit movement time, and possible residual cooling time.
  • Idle and Cycle Time: The cycle time describes the time needed to complete one full injection molding cycle. The cycle time minus the metering time corresponds to the idle time, during which the injection screw is not moving.

Cycle Time Analysis

Cycle time analysis is highly product-dependent. In principle, a short cycle time is preferable and idle times should be avoided, since no value is created during idle phases. However, idle time is often dictated by the product’s residual cooling time in the mold, which means further cycle time reduction is not feasible.
